The Salmon Festival is an annual harvest celebration that takes place the first Saturday in October in Vernonia’s Hawkins Park. The theme of the day is…salmon, and part of the day’s fun includes viewing the return of the salmon as they swim through Rock Creek.

Hands-on Art plays an active role in the Salmon Festival through promoting arts and culture.
Nestled in the evergreens bordering the park, the beautiful Cabin in the Park hosts our featured artists’ exhibits, showcasing local Vernonia talent.
While visitors and shoppers browse the displays, they can also participate in our silent auction of salmon-themed artwork. Each year, Hands-on Art invites local artists to create salmon-themed works of art that are displayed for the day and off with a new owner before sunset. All items are one-of-a kind creations.

In addition to the work of our featured artists and the salmon-themed auction, we host a small art sale of pieces generously donated by local artists, but outside the salmon-theme required for the auction. All proceeds from this Hands-on Art event benefit an arts scholarship at the high school.
